Hunar - Skills Development

KDSP offers a variety of Skills Development programs for both children and adults to inculcate hobby-building and also impart skills which will enable their financial independence. Family Enrichment activities are also arranged to provide families with an opportunity to create bonds and unwind.

Child Skills Development

Wonder Games
(Age Group 4 – 12 Years)

Wonder tree has developed a revolutionary educational and therapeutic platform, called ’Wonder Games”, particularly designed for children with special needs. The platform uses augmented reality based games for these children, where they will be able to improve their; motor, functional and cognitive skills.

Teddy Tennis
(Age Group 2.5 – 10 Years)

Teddy Tennis is a curriculum based sports education program that utilizes visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning techniques to inspire children to play tennis.

Story Time
(Age Group 2 – 10 Years)

The story time sessions use rhymes and movements to creatively interweave storytelling with music. It is a wonderful social experience for the children as they take in all aspects of the story and interact with their peers.

Playhouse Club
(Age Group 4 – 12 Years)

Participants explore their creativity and learn to think outside the box. Activities range from augmented reality games to number sequence and spelling games.

Music & Movement
(Age Group 4 Years & Above)

These sessions use dance and music to foster creative thinking, muscle coordination and musical and kinesthetic intelligence..

Swimming
(Age Group 6 – 12 Years)

KDSP started a 12-week swimming module for children aged 6-12 years in collaboration with AKUH Sports and Rehabilitation Centre. The module seeks to enhance gross motor skills, boost balance for children with low muscle tone, build core strength and coordination skills.

Adult Skills Development

Paper Craft
(Age Group 11 & Above)

Participants learn various techniques to create different objects using paper and quilling techniques, which helps in developing their fine motor skills, improving hand-eye coordination, encouraging innovation and creativity, enhancing their decision-making skills and promoting financial independence (as all the crafts developed are sold on their behalf by KDSP and 100% of the proceeds returned back to them).

Vegetable planting
(Age Group 8 & Above)

These sessions give hands-on knowledge about planting vegetables and taking care of the plant as it yields produce.

Clay Art/Pottery
(Age Group 12 & Above)

Participants use clay as a medium to express themselves and explore the possibilities of all they can create.The crafts developed by them are sold on their behalf by KDSP and 100% of the proceeds returned back to them

Block Screen Printing
(Age Group 16 & Above)

The program aims to teach individuals with Down syndrome the basics of block & screen printing, in turn expanding their range of abilities and interests.The crafts developed by them are sold on their behalf by KDSP and 100% of the proceeds returned back to them

Computer Skills
(Age Group 12 & Above)

The program aims to acquaint individuals with Down syndrome with technical computer skills for navigating digital and online spaces and using different softwares. The scope of learning is also greatly improved, due to the visual aid that computers provide.

Zumba
(Age Group 12 & Above)

Zumba is a dance-fitness combination, known to improve fitness and coordination, increase self-confidence, boost self-esteem, while improving the memory and fostering creativity amongst individuals.

Fit 5 Program
(Age Group 6 & Above)

‘Fit 5 Program’ is conducted in collaboration with Special Olympics Pakistan. It is a plan for physical activity, nutrition and hydration which improves participants’ health and fitness.

Weaving
(Age Group 4 – 12 Years)

These sessions teach the expert usage of hand looms and frames to create beautifully woven items.The crafts developed by them are sold on their behalf by KDSP and 100% of the proceeds returned back to them

Sewing & Stiching
(Age Group 16 & Above)

These sessions help in learning how to cut, sew and embroider to create beautiful handicrafts. The crafts developed by them are sold on their behalf by KDSP and 100% of the proceeds returned back to them.

Yoga
(Age Group 11 & Above)

These sessions promote mental concentration and improve flexibility through yoga flow routine.

Life Skills
(Age Group 10 & Above)

The Life Skills program incorporates a wide range of knowledge and skills that provide individuals with Down syndrome with important tools to help them handle daily tasks in their lives and develop into active and productive members of their communities. The life skills included in this program are self-care, hygiene, communication, digital awareness and money and time management.

Painting & Drawing
(Age Group 10 & Above)

This program teaches painting and drawing techniques through various art mediums.

Drum Circle
(Age Group 14 & Above)

Participants practice and play drums while connecting with each other. Drum circles help participants develop rhythm, listening skills and coordination.

Cooking & Baking
(Age Group 10 & Above)

Participants learn a variety of different skills such as using kitchen equipment in a safe and independent manner, accurately measuring ingredients, and using their sense of taste, touch and smell to create their own food items.

Photography
(Age Group 16 & Above)

Participants learn about camera angles, lighting and editing. The class also incorporates field trips to allow students to photograph new spaces and landscapes.

Education for Life
(Age Group 16 & Above)

The program offers life skill classes, vocational training and physical activities for young adults with Down syndrome.

Family Enrichment

New Year’s Hi-Tea

KDSP felt the need to commemorate the start of a new year by organizing a special event for its Family Network. A little get-together is organized annually where many parents participate in fun trivia and ice breaking games, in an effort to get to know each other better.

Beach Retreat

KDSP organizes an annual Beach Retreat for KDSP’s family network. The retreat features activities like racing competition, tug of war and sand sculpting. This aims to support and enrich ties with parents and caregivers in the Family Network.
